
PPG, a global coatings company with U.S. headquarters in Pittsburgh, has expanded its line of BPA- and PFAS-free coatings for aluminum beverage can ends—marking a significant development for both canmakers and beverage brands prioritizing product integrity and sustainability.
The expanded lineup includes three core products designed for both internal and external application on aluminum can lids, also known as “easy-open ends.” Each coating addresses a specific manufacturing or product challenge, from flavor preservation to production speed, and all comply with tightening global food contact regulations.

What’s in the PPG lineup?
PPG Innovel PRO PPG2489: A workhorse internal coating solution engineered for high-speed stamping lines and extreme manufacturing conditions. Suitable for a wide variety of beverages—including beer, seltzers, carbonated soft drinks, wine, and ready-to-drink cocktails—it offers high thermal stability and potential carbon footprint reductions up to 20% through low-film weight applications.
PPG Innovel EVO PPG6720: A waterborne internal coating designed specifically for beer. It boasts low VOCs, improved sustainability over solvent-based coatings, and reliable performance under pasteurization and hot-fill conditions.
PPG iSENSE PPG5018: A robust external coating available in both clear and gold finishes, optimized for fast line speeds and offering consistent protection across global plant operations.
All three coatings are BPA-NI (Bisphenol A non-intent) and PFAS-NI (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances non-intent), aligning with the increasing push from global regulators and beverage brands to remove potentially harmful chemicals from packaging materials.
