Meet Dolcita: The newest commercial hop from Hop Breeding Company

Hop Cone Dolcita

Hop Breeding Company (HBC) announced the official commercial release of Dolcita™ brand HBC 1019 c.v., a new and innovative hop variety designed to meet the high expectations of brewers and beer lovers around the world. Created in 2016 using traditional breeding methods and HBC’s proprietary breeding stock, Dolcita™ is one of the fastest hops ever brought to market by HBC.

Dolcita is now available through Yakima Chief Hops and John I. Haas.

“Even in its early formation, we saw overwhelming enthusiasm from brewers,” said Bryan Pierce, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at Yakima Chief Hops. “I believe Dolcita will become a cornerstone variety – one that earns a place in breweries around the world, thanks to its exciting, versatile character. Simply put, it’s a damn good hop.”

Dolcita hop flavor profile

Bursting with complex aromas of stone fruit, tropical, sweet aromatic, and citrus, Dolcita brings an unmistakably vibrant sensory profile to the brewing world. Described by brewers as evoking peach rings and tropical daiquiris, this unique hop delivers an intense, fruit-forward character balanced by sweet, aromatic depth.

“Dolcita represents the kind of innovation that defines who we are,” Pierce said. “It delivers high-quality aroma – layered with tropical notes, stone fruit, and particularly an abundance of peach – that gives brewers something truly unique to work with. From field to fermenter, this hop is a standout.”

From its earliest breeding stages, Dolcita stood out for more than just its flavor. It boasts strong pest and disease resistance, good storage stability, an early harvest window, and consistently high yields, making it an exceptional choice for both brewers and growers.

What they’re saying about Dolcita

“From the moment I first encountered Dolcita, its incredibly vibrant aroma leaped out from thousands of other hybrids. It was the obvious star from a mother stock with uniquely tropical characteristics. And when we brewed with it, the flavor matched the aroma. In my 25 years of breeding, true winners are rare, but Dolcita was unmistakable, which is why it’s now one of the quickest cross-to-market hops we’ve ever had,” Michael Ferguson, Director of Hop Breeding at John I. Haas.

“Dolcita is the boldest representation of the Hop Breeding Company’s mission: to provide brewers with the best, most unique, and most sustainable hops on the planet. With aromas of caramelized pineapple, peach rings, and orange juice, consumers will think they’re drinking a tropical daiquiri rather than an IPA. Beers made with Dolcita definitely stand out due to their strong, distinct flavor profile,” said Jeff Dailey, Sensory Manager at John I. Haas.

“The juicy aroma of Dolcita translates strongly from rub though the finished beer, which is a rarity in breeding, and something HBC really strives for in its brands. The upfront peach candy notes in particular really make the hop unique. This, combined with grower-friendly field performance, make Dolcita a standout hop in our portfolio,” said Jason Perrault, Head Breeder of Yakima Chief Ranches.
