Beers to Know This Week: A century of pints, collabs and cosmic grapefruit

From limited-edition lagers tipping a hat to The New Yorker’s 100th, to a 19.2-oz grapefruit bomb built for space cowboys, this week’s new beer releases show just how wide (and weird) the flavor spectrum can go. You’ve got anniversary IPAs, community collabs, and the expansion of one of the most iconic canned beers in American craft brewing history. Here are six worth knowing.

Oskar Blues Dale's IPA

Dale’s goes West: Oskar Blues adds American IPA to iconic lineup

Dale’s Pale Ale helped ignite the canned craft beer revolution in 2002. Now Oskar Blues is returning to its hop-forward roots with the release of Dale’s American IPA, a 7% ABV West Coast-style IPA meant to taste like your go-to hoodie: bold, familiar, and always in style.

This new addition to the Dale’s family brings a classically expressive profile—think citrus, pine, and a subtle herbal snap—anchored by a modern malt base. It’s built for session hangouts and Olympic curling watch parties: Dale’s American IPA will show up at USA Curling events and clubs throughout the 2025-26 season as the brand expands nationally this fall.

“We found the classic balance of hop flavor between familiar and fearless—an American quality of pushing boundaries but staying grounded,” says Aaron Baker, Brand Director at Oskar Blues.

Dale’s American IPA joins a full line of Dale’s offerings including the flagship Pale Ale, Double Dale’s IPA, Dale’s Light Lager, Easy IPA, and Designated Dale’s NA Pils. Currently pouring at Oskar Blues taprooms in Brevard, NC, and Longmont, CO, this one is shipping now and headed for broader shelves by autumn. It’ll be available in 6-packs of 12 oz cans and draft.

Eustace gets a beer: Brooklyn Brewery x The New Yorker

Brooklyn Lager for the New Yorker

To mark the The New Yorker’s 100th anniversary, Brooklyn Brewery is releasing a limited-edition Brooklyn Lager with bespoke packaging featuring the magazine’s monocled mascot Eustace Tilley—except this time, he’s holding a pint.

The beer release also comes with a special merch line and pint-raising appearances at The New Yorker Festival (Oct. 24–26), celebrating the pairing of two NYC institutions.

“Brooklyn Lager has always been about celebrating the spirit of the city,” said Karli Bainbridge, CMO for Brooklyn Brewery. “Partnering with the iconic New Yorker magazine that has chronicled that spirit for generations feels like the perfect match.”

Find it in 6- and 12-packs of bottles this fall, while supplies last.

ICYMI: Pure Project is helping turtles

Reported on earlier because it is super cool: Pure Project’s newest beer release is brewed for freshness and survival. The San Diego brewery has teamed up with international conservation group WILDCOAST to launch Noc-Turtle, a hazy IPA brewed to support endangered sea turtle protection efforts in Oaxaca, Mexico.

Available starting October 2, the beer directly funds work to safeguard the critically endangered Eastern Pacific leatherback, one of the world’s largest and most at-risk sea turtle species. Only a small number of nesting females remain, and the population has dropped over 90% in the last two decades.

Lawson’s Finest Celebrates Black Brewers Day with Two Impactful IPAs

Lawson's Finest illumin-8

To celebrate Black Brewers Day on Oct. 10, Lawson’s Finest Liquids is turning awareness into action with two limited-edition IPAs brewed to uplift diversity in craft beer: Illumin-8 and Change in the Air.

First up, Illumin-8 (7% ABV) is a bold yet balanced West Coast-style IPA brewed with Inglewood’s Crowns & Hops. It shines with a curated blend of New Zealand hops, bursting with citrus, tropical fruit, and a whisper of pine. This beer directly supports the 8 Trill Initiative, the nonprofit launched by Crowns & Hops to fund and mentor Black entrepreneurs in craft beer. “We’re proud to brew Illumin-8 in support of their work to create meaningful access and equity in the beer industry,” said Lawson’s co-founder Sean Lawson.

The second release, Change in the Air IPA (5.8% ABV, ~45 IBU), is a returning collab with New England Brewing Co. brewed with purpose. It offers flavors of pear, mango, passionfruit, and citrus with a light body and golden clarity. Proceeds benefit the Change in the Air Foundation, which supports scholarships and education pathways for Black and Brown brewers in Connecticut. The label artwork was designed by New Haven artist and Foundation team member Shavon Gales.

Both beers will be available in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans in limited Northeast/Mid-Atlantic distribution and tapped at the Great American Beer Festival on October 10—right on Black Brewers Day.

Shred on, dudes: Von Ebert & Shred Beer go ‘Super’

Super Shredder Von Ebert

Von Ebert Brewing just dropped its final California collab of 2025, teaming up with Shred Beer Co. for a diesel-tinged West Coast IPA named Super Shredder. This 7.5% hop blast brings five varieties to the mix, resulting in flavors of dank resin, raspberry, passionfruit, and a little motor oil charm.

“Von Ebert Brewing’s commitment to constantly evolving while honoring tradition makes for a fun collaborative experience,” said Zack Frasher and Amy Heller, co-owners of Shred Beer Co.

In 2025, Von Ebert Brewing will have made six collaboration beers with breweries in Oregon, California and the last one will be with Cloudburst Brewing in Seattle, Washington scheduled for December. Super Shredder is available throughout October at Von Ebert locations and West Coast retailers.

Side Gate throws a backyard bash (with beer, of course)

Concord, California’s Side Gate Brewery is turning 4 and celebrating in style—releasing two new beers to mark the occasion and the 50th anniversary of the nearby Toyota Pavilion.

The October 11 anniversary party will feature a new IPA collab with Visit Concord and the Pavilion, plus a Stranger Things-themed hazy IPA, food trucks, and live music.

“For the past four years, we’ve strived to become the local ‘Cheers’ bar of breweries,” said Kevin Wilson and Paul Culbertson, co-founders of Side Gate. “Being voted Best Brewery in the East Bay is a testament to how we’ve created a family-like haven for all community members.”

Midwest magic: Dayton’s Warped Wing goes full local with Red IPA

Midwest Roots Warped Wing

Dayton, Ohio’s Warped Wing Brewing Co. teamed up with Dorothy Lane Market and Cox Arboretum MetroPark on Midwest Roots Red IPA, a hyper-local beer brewed with Ohio-grown Turkey Red Wheat and Chinook hops from the Arboretum itself.

“This project celebrates our shared commitment to community, sustainability, and the incredible natural resources right here in our backyard,” said Nick Bowman, Warped Wing Co-Founder.

At 5.4% ABV and 20 IBUs, this balanced red IPA is a true taste of place—and proceeds support The Cox Arboretum Foundation. Draft and limited cans available now.

Cosmic cans: Dust Bowl’s The Big GIIPA enters orbit

Dust Bowl Brewing Big GIIPA

Imperial IPA fans, meet your next solo mission. Dust Bowl Brewing Co. has launched The Big GIIPA, a grapefruit-charged 9.7% Imperial IPA designed for the 19.2 oz single-serve format.

“This beer was designed for the 19.2 ounce single serve market,” said Don Oliver, Brewmaster. “It serves up the high ABV, fruity hop punch fans are looking for.”
