After 30 years of boundary-pushing, Utopias finally hits its milestone ABV — and 15 states still won’t allow it
Samuel Adams just dropped the 14th vintage of its genre-defying Utopias beer — and this one’s historic.
Utopias 2025 clocks in at 30% ABV, making it one of the strongest beers ever brewed and achieving a milestone that Jim Koch and the Boston Beer team have chased for more than three decades. It’s a number so high that Utopias remains illegal in 15 U.S. states. For everyone else, the limited-edition, barrel-aged beer is available now in a 24.5 oz ceramic bottle for $240 SRP.

What makes it special?
Utopias 2025 blends barrel-aged beers up to 30 years old and finishes in an eclectic mix of casks: Irish whiskey, Amarone, White Port, Cognac, Carcavelos, Ruby Port and Scotch. The resulting liquid is dark, rich, and spirit-like — caramel, dried fruit, oak, smoke, subtle citrus — meant to be sipped in 1 oz pours at room temperature.
The packaging rocks. Each bottle is uncarbonated and resealable, designed to be savored over time like a fine spirit. It’s brewed in Cincinnati, aged in Pennsylvania, blended in Boston, and bottled at Dogfish Head in Delaware. And each bottle is individually numbered, with #1 reserved for Koch himself.
Where to find it
Utopias is available now at select beer, wine and liquor retailers in 35 states, including CA, NY, FL, MA, IL and PA. It remains banned in AL, AR, GA, ID, MO, MS, MT, NH, NC, OK, OR, SC, UT, VT and WV — all of which prohibit beers above a certain ABV threshold.
