NEBCO to move HQ and brewing operations to waterfront Stony Creek site; partners with Supreme Seafood for new taproom concept
Connecticut’s New England Brewing Co. (NEBCO) is heading to the shoreline. The longtime Woodbridge-based brewery has acquired the brewery facility previously operated by Stony Creek Brewery, nestled along the Branford River in Branford, Connecticut.
This acquisition marks a major leap forward for NEBCO, giving the veteran craft brewery more space to grow both in output and guest experience. NEBCO will shift its primary brewing operations and company headquarters to the new Branford location while maintaining its original Woodbridge taproom at 175 Amity Road.
“This expansion is a long time coming and a significant milestone for us,” said Rob Leonard, owner of NEBCO. “The timing aligns perfectly for us to expand our reach in the craft beer community.”
Sale and location details
The sale includes the 5 Indian Neck Avenue property—featuring the brewhouse, taproom, event space, and kitchen trailer—but does not include the Stony Creek brand or its business operations. According to the press release, NEBCO will be temporarily closing the Branford taproom to begin renovations, but it will honor existing event bookings during the transition.
Stony Creek Brewery founder Ed Crowley offered his support for the change: “After many incredible years of brewing and serving our community, we felt it was the right time to step away. We’re grateful to have found a Connecticut-based brewer to take over the reins. We have full confidence in NEBCO’s ability to elevate the space and continue its tradition as a vibrant destination for beer lovers.”
What’s next?
NEBCO has big plans for the facility, including the launch of a new food concept: NEBCO Craft Kitchen by Supreme Seafood, in partnership with local restaurant veterans Robert Marcarelli and Jared Schulefand of Pi Restaurant Consulting (known for Supreme Seafood and Home Restaurant). The initial menu will focus on Connecticut seafood staples like lobster rolls, as well as burgers, wings, and rotating specials. A soft opening for dinner service is expected later this summer.
“Our goal, as always, is to continue making world-class beer while providing an exceptional experience for our customers,” Leonard added. “We can’t wait to embark on this journey and are excited to welcome everyone to our Branford facility.”
Founded in 2001, NEBCO brewed over 20,000 barrels at its Woodbridge location in 2024 and expects to ramp up to 30,000 barrels annually once fully operational in Branford. The brewery’s core and small-batch beers are widely available throughout Connecticut on draft and in package.
