Austin mainstays Meanwhile Brewing Co. and Uptown Sports Club announce the return of their four-part Summer Backyard Barbecue Series, bringing together chefs, Meanwhile brewmasters, live music and local vendors to offer a laid-back culinary experience reminiscent of the classic outdoor summer shindig. The family-friendly series will take place at Meanwhile Brewing (3901 Promontory Point Drive, Austin, TX 78744) from 6 to 10 p.m. on July 25, Aug. 1, Aug. 8 and Aug. 15. All proceeds from the event will go directly to The Community Foundation of the Hill Country to support the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, including proceeds from the “Backyard BBQ Grillin’ & Chillin’” custom merch and each evening’s limited edition draft beer. “Our inaugural Backyard Barbecue Series with our friends at Meanwhile was such a huge hit that we had to bring it back,” says Uptown Sports Club co-owner and famed pitmaster Aaron Franklin. “This summer, we hope that the series can continue to unite the community through good food and an even better cause, as we look to raise money for all those affected by the recent devastating floods in our beloved Hill Country and surrounding areas. We feel fortunate to team up once again with Meanwhile Brewing Co. and so many other generous partners to do what we can to support our fellow Texans”
The series will feature four unique events showcasing a variety of barbecue grilling practices and global cuisines. Along with Franklin, participating chefs include Mike Diaz and Laura Sawicki of Oseyo; Bob Somsith of Lao’d Bar; Ivana Coria and Yamila Belén Maldonado of Cuyo; Anthony Pratto of Discada; James Philibert of Uptown Sports Club; Damien Brockway of Distant Relatives; Geoff Ellis of MUM Foods; and Mike Perez of Loro. The team at Uptown Sports Club will also provide additional grilled and cold food options at each of the four events. Oseyo, Bésame and Diana Baked ATX will provide desserts. Meanwhile Brewing Co. will also create a custom, small batch beer for each event inspired by the evening’s menu and theme – see below for more details on the limited brews.
