Craft credo No. 5: Support the environment (like this limited-edition 72 Stretch beer for the Mississippi River)

Environmental stewardship is one of craft’s Top 5 credos. In our humble opinion, a craft brewer should make great quality beer (Craft Credo No. 1), serve their community first (No. 2), support the craft industry overall (No. 3), embrace philanthropy (No. 4) and fight for the environment and sustainability (No. 5).

Honoring more than one of those credos, Friends of the Mississippi River (a St Paul, Minn.-based organization) is teaming up with local businesses to collaborate and release a limited-edition beer to support the Mississippi River. It’s called 72 Stretch. Made in collaboration with Fulton Beer, Rahr Corp. and Bob Mitchell’s Fly Shop, this special brew honors the 72 miles of the Mississippi River flowing through the Twin Cities metro, which serves as the sole source of drinking water for nearly one in three metro residents.

Join Friends of the Mississippi River (FMR) at Fulton Taproom on Tuesday, August 2 (tomorrow!) in Minneapolis, beginning at 5 p.m. to celebrate the release of 72 Stretch, which is limited-edition Fulton gose. In recognition of the river’s importance to our health, culture and industry, $1 from each pint of 72 Stretch will support FMR’s work to protect, restore and enhance the river for everyone. 72 Stretch will be available only in Fulton Taproom while supplies last. Check it out before it’s gone!

Wait, there’s more!

In addition to great beer, the launch party will feature fly casting tips from the owners of Bob Mitchell’s Fly Shop, specially produced river-themed artwork by Jake Keeler and screenings of FMR’s documentary, “Rebirth,” on the little-known story behind the hard-won designation of our local Mississippi River national park. FMR staff and friends will be there to answer questions on river health and to share actions that all of us can take to protect the Big River.

This event is free, open to the public (ages 21+) and no registration is required!
