Things are hop-pening in the strong Cleveland craft beer market. The Cleveland Brew Shop — a local favorite for homebrewers and craft brewers alike — announced that it plans to convert a vacant city lot into a small-scale hop farm in association with the Tremont West Development Corp.
The Ohio Beer Blog reported that Tremont West Development approached the Brew Shop about using undeveloped land along W 14th St., south of Interstate 490. It is planned that the fresh hops will be sold through the shop to local homebrewers and breweries. From the Ohio Beer Blog:
Shop owner Paul Benner said he expects to construct a hop trellis and plant about 20 individual plants this spring. He’s still deciding which hop varieties to grow. But it’ll likely be Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and one other, he said
Those are hops that are in high demand these days, as Craft Brewing Business found when we examined current hop trends.
