The vast majority of beer enjoyed by American drinkers is brewed, packaged, and shipped within the United States — a testament to the strength of domestic production. To track this critical segment of the industry, the Beer Institute collaborates with brewers, trade groups, and government agencies to estimate the total volume of regular beer (over 0.5% ABV) produced and sold nationwide. This data always offers a comprehensive look at beer’s footprint in the U.S. economy, revealing key trends in consumption, production, and market shifts that could shape the future of the industry.

Recently the Beer Institute published an unofficial estimate of taxable removals shipments by beer brewers for January 2025. The January 2025 estimate of 10,550,000 barrels, for a decrease of 8.7% compared to January 2024 removals of 11,551,511. The February 2025 taxable removals estimate is scheduled to be released on April 3.
