
Watson-Marlow Fluid Technology Solutions (WMFTS) has introduced a new Bredel CIP hose pump. The design aims to simplify cleaning while improving energy efficiency for breweries and other food and beverage producers. In addition to supporting clean-in-place (CIP) systems, these pumps can handle delicate applications like yeast transfer, flavor dosing and other ingredient additions. Key design features
The Bredel CIP pump uses a new rotor and retractable shoe system. This design allows fluid to pass at more than 2 meters per second. During CIP cycles, the pump retracts its shoes to prevent hose compression at high temperatures. This extends hose life and reduces replacement costs.
The pump comes in three sizes:
- 20: 600 liters per hour
- 25: 1,800 liters per hour
- 32: 3,200 liters per hour
Existing users can retrofit their current pumps with the CIP rotor without removing the pump from the process line.
Energy savings for breweries

Breweries often run several cleaning cycles per day. Traditional hose pumps stay powered during these cycles, consuming energy without moving product. With the Bredel CIP pump, operators can retract the shoes and shut off the motor during cleaning. For example, a brewery running four one-hour CIP cycles daily could save more than 1,400 pump operating hours annually. That equals a 16 percent reduction in energy use for this step alone. That’s a lot. The only fluid contact point in a Bredel hose pump is the inside of the hose, supporting food-safety compliance. The pump meets FDA, EC1935, and 3A standards.
