New Holland Brewing Co. is one of those rare craft companies that can do a little of everything well — brewing beer, distilling spirits and running a separate pub and restaurant in downtown Holland, Mich. Now, they also make furniture, according to an article on Holland Sentinel.com:
The local microbrewery, featuring a downtown Holland pub and restaurant and a Holland Township production facility, has established the BarrelWorks Project to recycle oak barrels previously involved in the making of its most popular beer, Dragon’s Milk, and aging its signature Beer Barrel Bourbon whiskey. It is the brainchild of New Holland employees Steve Raad and Jeff Dyke, who found another purpose for the stockpiled inventory of barrels than discarding them. They created a unique product line that began with a collapsible, portable beach chair, which has since been patented.
So the next time you’re drinking one of New Holland’s wonderful cadre of craft beer, including staples like Dragon Milk and Mad Hatter, imbibe will sitting in a relaxing wooden chair, fashioned from old oak barrels used to age excellent beer. According to that same article, BarrelWorks Project’s product lineup will also include tables, clocks, bottle openers, coat racks, guitar stands and even a skateboard.
